NPD: Joyo Sweetness Babe... I like it, but should I upgrade?

A few days ago I pulled the trigger on a Joyo Sweet Baby (a clone of the Mad Professor Sweet Dear) and am REALLY liking the circuit, although (unsurprisingly, given the price) the Joyo is not w corking work of adroitness. I have recently come across a pretty good deal on a Sweet Honey Deluxe (although information technology is withal quite a bit more the bargain basement Sweetness Baby) and am wondering whether, given how much I like this circuit (and where it fits in my current pedal board, sonically) whether it is worth updating to the SH Deluxe for the better EQ options it provides. (While the Focus command on the Sweet Baby is an OK tone shaper, I do recollect the EQ on the pedal is good just not groovy.)

Anyone fabricated the leap from either the Sweet Love or, ideally, the Sweet Baby to the Sweet Honey Deluxe? If so, does the added treble and bass controls make for a significant comeback on the sound of the pedal?

Thanks!

The Joyo stuff is bang-up to test out a excursion to see if you lot like information technology...and once yous think it is something that you lot volition like/use/keep, so it is time to go for the real thing.

Just my stance

The Joyo stuff is great to exam out a excursion to see if y'all like it...and in one case yous think information technology is something that you volition like/apply/keep, and then information technology is fourth dimension to become for the existent matter.

Only my stance

+1. That's my stance also.

Having said that, I would have no problem using a Joyo on my board, simply I've always seen a distinct improvement when moving to using the real matter. So I agree that Joyo'south are a great mode to figure out if a certain pedal works for you or not, before spending big bucks on the real thing.

Other than reliability bug, I don't think you should feel ashamed for using a cheap pedal on your board. If information technology sounds good, then employ information technology.

they dont have any more reliability issues than anyone else.

i had the import version of the 'real matter' and wasnt besides impressed due west the range of the controls- thats something ive noticed about some joyos. their pot values, etc sometimes are more limited than the pedals theyre clones of. in this case the 'real matter' had the same issue. fyi- in case the OP was curious.

I'chiliad definitely not ashamed to accept Joyo on my board and I'thou non also worried well-nigh build quality (specially given the low price of the Joyo). I've got an Ac Tone and an American Sound, either of which y'all'd take to pry out of my common cold dead easily. (They are non on my lath, I used them primarily for going DI into a PA.)

I don't think I would be tempted to swap the Sweet Baby for the standard Sweetness Honey. My question is more than nearly the Sugariness Love Deluxe, which has on-board treble and bass knobs for EQ purposes dissimilar the regular Sweet Dearest and the Sweet Baby. I am but trying to get input on whether the additional EQ on the Deluxe makes enough of a difference in tone flexibility to exist worth upgrading (at an bonny price... I probably would not be because it at total retail toll).

I don't remember I would be tempted to swap the Sweetness Infant for the standard Sweetness Honey. My question is more nigh the Sweet Beloved Deluxe, which has on-board treble and bass knobs for EQ purposes unlike the regular Sweet Honey and the Sweet Baby. I am just trying to become input on whether the boosted EQ on the Palatial makes plenty of a departure in tone flexibility to be worth upgrading

Bearfoot has a Honey Beest which is a HB clone with added treble control.
Withal, the treble is pre-gain which made the pedal a true pain as any
treble aligning would make the remainder of the pedal react differently.

After comparing this to the regular Bearfoot HB, I institute the regular version
already had the treble ready at the sweet spot of the pedal.

The good news for the SHD is the treble is mail-gain.
Which is what I sometimes wish I had.
However, the bass is pre-gain, which could be good or bad ??

Also, all versions of the HB sound different.
Sometimes cracking enough you wonder how they are considered similar ??

Switch on mine went down later a few months of light utilize. As others have pointed out, build quality and questionable durability are best reasons to sell information technology while it still works and put the money toward a real sweet dear OD.

Sweet honey and Dearest bee are not the aforementioned. Aforementioned ballpark, merely different sounding circuits. I like them both, prefer the bee.

I would think having Bass pre-gain would be better (at least for my purposes), as it lets you EQ out the "woof" you tend to become with warmer HBs with this type of OD as you crank up the gain.

I'm pretty tempted to pull the trigger on the Sweetness Dear Deluxe, in the absence of anyone weighing in heavily on the side of "it's just more of the aforementioned".

How did you go? I actually like the joyo sugariness baby. It has an crawly tone which has vanquish out more expensive bazaar pedals (except pettyjohn chime). I am getting the SHOD in the post in the next few days, hope it is fifty-fifty better.

I did terminate up getting the SHOD. The extra EQ the Palatial brings is definitely a benefit. I would not call information technology a total game changer, though. If I knew what I know now and did not already own any of them, I would probably even so by the SHOD, But if I already owned the Sweet Baby (as I did when I bought the SHOD), I am not certain I would spring to go the SHOD, given that the Sweet Babe was 85%-90% of the SHOD and the cost of the two pedals together (even though I got a very practiced cost on the SHOD) was tickling $200. That'southward my $.02.

Cheers for the response. Still waiting for mine. The sweet baby is so proficient to my ears and with my gear. I thought, may as well buy the real deal if it is a long term keeper on my board. The eq is appealing for fine tuning too.

SHOD arrived and I have played and compared at dwelling volume. Starting time impressions are that information technology seem slightly thicker than the joyo sweet babe. The bass knob needs to be turned fully counter clockwise to match the sweet dear. Seems like there is slightly more overdrive. In some ways the sweet baby sounds a scrap more than open and non equally thick. Can almost get the identical tone from both with no bass, bit less drive, treble past at 1 o'clock and a little more focus.
Looking frontwards to trying at band rehearsal volume.
But posting for others considering upgrading.

Admittedly a good instance of how you can do it. I now have both, and volition never go rid of either of them. They likewise are unlike in how the pedal responds. Yes the new SHOD deluxe has added EQ, just even the older one is worth having based on tone and build quality alone. You do non need to buy the handwired versions.

I have a few Joyo and Biyang pedals and, IMHO, they are all but as sturdy and audio every bit good or better than most of the pedals they are based upon. (I've A/B compared several and they are great)

I just bought the Biyang Tri-Verb and it'south just a ridiculously first-class sounding guitar reverb pedal.

I'k a fan of the Joyo Sweet Baby... information technology has more low cease presence & chime than most other low gain overdrives. I sometimes use it stacked with a more mid focused low gain overdrive for a actually full overly saturated push earlier a tube amp's overdrive, or another high gain baloney or fuzz.

The "second generation" Joyos with the raised bump of metal under the switch area seem to have the cheaper switches and less robust cases. I have two of this type - a US dream and a Sweet Baby. The switch on my Sweet Baby did temporarily get stuck on but information technology's corrected itself now. It'due south a actually squeamish sounding pedal though...

I've been using the sweet baby into the @ angry Charlie and by itself fairly clean and both sound crawly. It cuts the lows and adds prissy flavour. Information technology's special tone and forcefulness to me is it's open sounding low mid/lows, simply information technology may be a chip loose up top.
At lower home volume then far, I'm thinking the SHOD might compromise between the 2 - Little thicker depression but nicer height. I won't know till I become it upwardly to volume.
If you are really cashed up, a pedal that Y'all can tweak into a similar mode tone and beyond is the Pettyjohn Chime. I thought the sweet dearest baby was awesome, the Chime would accept to be 40% more special in my stance. I was lucky plenty to get one used on eBay.
